Lang Co Beach is a 10 km curve of pale sand between the Hai Van Pass and Lap An Lagoon, about 27 km south of Vedana Lagoon Resort & Spa on Highway 1, or 30 to 35 minutes by car. It is a public beach with no entry fee, at its best from April to July, when the water is clear and calm. Plan a morning swim, an oyster lunch by the lagoon and a drive back for the resort’s pools by mid-afternoon.
Outside those months the picture changes: from late August rain is frequent and the sea turns murky, and October and November bring the floods that close beach days altogether.
What Lang Co Beach is like
Lang Co is a bay rather than a single resort beach. Roughly 10 km of sand runs along the coast road, with the forested slopes of the Hai Van range closing it off to the south and the calm water of Lap An Lagoon lying behind the village to the west. The bay joined the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World around 2009, and the town now sits inside the new Chan May – Lang Co commune of Hue City.
The sand is wide and soft, and the water shelves gently near the village. Mornings are often misty because the mountains stand so close to the sea; by mid-morning the mist burns off and the colors come up. Large resorts occupy parts of the shore, but the stretch in front of the village and the guesthouses is open to anyone and costs nothing to walk onto.
Lap An Lagoon, the other half of the view
Just behind the beach, Lap An Lagoon is a shallow body of water used for oyster farming, ringed by the mountains. It is where most visitors eat seafood and stop for photos at the end of the day. It is a short drive from the sand, so it fits into the same trip without extra planning.
When to go to Lang Co Beach
The beach season and the lagoon season are the same: both peak in the drier months before the late-summer storms. Use this as a rough guide and check the forecast a few days ahead.
| Months | Sea and weather | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|
| April–July | Clear, calm water; long sunny days, very hot by midday in June and July | The best time |
| August | Still warm; rain and storms start to arrive | Good, with a backup plan |
| September–December | Frequent rain, murky water; floods common in October and November | Skip the beach |
| January–March | Cooler, often grey; sea calmer than in autumn | A walk more than a swim |
Weather in this stretch of coast can be extreme. In late October 2025 a weather station in nearby Bach Ma recorded 1,739.6 mm of rain in 24 hours, a national record. In the wet season, treat any beach plan as provisional and keep a pool or spa day in reserve at Vedana Lagoon.
Getting to Lang Co from Vedana Lagoon
Lang Co is about 27 km south along Highway 1, a 30 to 35 minute drive past rice fields and the edge of Cau Hai Lagoon. Our getting-there guide lists the drive times to every nearby beach and town.
| Option | How it works | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi booked by the front desk | Door to door, about 30–35 min each way | Book the return pickup at the same time; cars are scarce in Lang Co late in the day |
| Resort car or private tour | Booked ahead through the resort | Price on request; easiest with children |
| Free resort beach shuttle | Goes to Canh Duong Beach, not Lang Co | 10:30 am out, 2 pm back, good weather only |
If what you want is simply sand and sea, the free shuttle to Canh Duong is the easy option: it is closer and costs nothing. Lang Co is worth the extra distance for its size, the mountain backdrop and lunch by the lagoon.
How to spend a day at Lang Co
Morning: swim before the heat
Leave the resort around 8 am and be on the sand by 8:30, when the mist lifts and the light is soft. Swim where local families swim, near the village, and stay out of the water on days with a heavy swell. Beachfront restaurants usually rent chairs and umbrellas; agree on the price before you sit down.
Lunch: oysters by Lap An Lagoon
Oysters from the lagoon are the local specialty, grilled with scallion oil or eaten raw with lime, and the seafood restaurants along Lap An serve them with the mountains behind. Choose fish and shellfish from the tanks and confirm the price by weight before it is cooked.
Afternoon: Chan May or back to the pool
On the way north, the beach at Chan May is known for clear water and gentle waves, and small coves such as Bai Chuoi attract campers and picnickers. Or skip them and be back at Vedana Lagoon by 3 pm, in time for the Twilight infinity pool and the piano lounge as the light goes gold over Cau Hai Lagoon.
Questions about Lang Co Beach
Is Lang Co Beach free to visit?
Yes. Lang Co is a public beach and there is no entry fee for the stretches in front of the village and the guesthouses. You pay only for what you use: chairs and umbrellas from beachfront restaurants, and food. Some sections in front of large resorts are kept for their own guests.
Can you swim at Lang Co in October or November?
Usually not comfortably. Those are the wettest months on this coast, with frequent heavy rain, murky water and the risk of floods and storms. Some days are calm, but you cannot plan around them weeks ahead. If your trip falls in autumn, treat Lang Co as a viewpoint stop and use the resort’s heated indoor pool instead.
How far is Lang Co Beach from Vedana Lagoon and from Hue?
Lang Co is about 27 km and 30 to 35 minutes south of Vedana Lagoon along Highway 1. From central Hue it is roughly 65–70 km, closer to an hour and a half, so staying at Vedana Lagoon cuts the trip roughly in half compared with a day out from the city.
Is Lang Co Beach the same as Canh Duong Beach?
No. Canh Duong is a separate, quieter beach about 20 km from Vedana Lagoon, on the stretch between the resort and Lang Co. It is where the resort’s free beach shuttle goes, leaving at 10:30 am and returning at 2 pm in good weather. Lang Co is larger, farther south and backed by the Hai Van mountains.
